'Our feet were  tapping; we felt a range of emotions as we were charmed, soothed or energised by the singers, singers who had learned their stagecraft well. Not only they benefitted: I sat next to some people who had watched the rehearsals, enjoyed them, felt part of the process and been amazed by the progress of the singers from week to week.'

OUR MOST RECENT COMMUNITY COURSE (now completed)

What's on offer?

SingSwingSing! Hinckley is an 8 week course of vocal workshops for a group of over 60 year olds run by Big Band and BBC proms vocalist

Matt Ford and Music For Wellbeing Community Interest Company.

SingSwingSing! is designed for people who may feel socially isolated, lonely, apprehensive about getting out and about, or simply need a few hours respite from caring for a loved one, and who have an interest in singing and a love of Big Band/Swing Era music.

(Sinatra, Peggy Lee, Ella Fitzgerald, Bobby Darin for example).

Do I need to have previous singing experience?

No! You don't  have to be a great singer.  We're not looking for the next X factor finalist!  You just need a love of the music and a willingness to commit to the course.  The main workshop course is open to anyone aged over 60 years old living within the Hinckley & Bosworth area.

I'd rather not sing, but I'd still like to get involved.

There are 20 spaces for 'Don't Sing!' members, who will provide moral support and feedback to the singers, while also learning from watching the process unfold, and enjoying the social aspects of being in a group of like-minded people.

What are the 'drop-in' sessions I've seen advertised?

Prior to each of the main workshops will be a 30 minute ‘drop-in’ Vocal Health & Development Session.

In these sessions we work on the basics of breath control, vocal warm-up and vocal maintenance.

It’ll be a great way to exercise your voice.

Everyone and anyone is welcome to attend these drop-in group sessions.

These sessions run 11am - 11.30am

So what do the singers do in the sessions?

Each week the singers will work on their chosen song with Matt Ford (and a star pianist) focusing on one of the

six essential skills required to perform the music of the Swing era.

In week 7, our singers have the chance to perform for an invited audience of family & friends.

In week 8 our singers have the option of visiting a local care home, to perform their songs for the residents.

OK, I'm interested, but when do the workshops start?

Recruitment for our course has begun!

If you think you might be interested, please don't hesitate to contact Matt on the number below.

He'll be able to answer any questions you may have.

The workshops will be held at Hinckley's Concordia Theatre on the following dates:

Wednesday February 21st

Wednesday February 28th

Wednesday March 6th

Wednesday March 13th

2 week break

Wednesday April 3rd

Wednesday April 10th

Wednesday April 17th

Wednesday April 24th

Sessions run from 11.30am - 2.30pm

Sounds good, but what's it going to cost me?

Nothing! And I mean nothing!

Through the generosity of IM Properties, the Leicestershire & Rutland Community Foundation have awarded us a grant to run the project at no cost to participants.

This grant pays for everything associated with the workshops.  There's no catch and no small print!
